Speech delivered by the
Hon. Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Narendra Modi
on the 30th Oct. 03

Hon'ble Minister for Finance, Mr. Jaswant Singh, Minister for Rural Development Mr. Kashiram Rana, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Mr. Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Minister for Textiles Mr. Hussain, President of FICCI

Mr. Anand Mahindra, Ladies and Gentlemen:

After a magnificent launch of the 'Navartri - Vibrant Gujarat' program by the Honorable Deputy Prime Minister on 25th September at Ahmedabad, we have gathered here today to talk about the prospects of investments of new technology, in gems, jewellery, and textiles industries. I am delighted to be here at Surat, the diamond capital of Gujarat, with captains of industry, commerce and trade to share our vision for the industrial and economic development of Gujarat.

In Ahmedabad, we have had extensive and fruitful discussions on various important issues like biotechnology, infrastructural development, petroleum and natural gas that will help shape a modern Gujarat of the 21st century, and make it have world class facilities. In the next three days, I look forward to the exhibitions and conventions in Surat on the two global areas, where India, has tremendous
potential: Textile & Garments and Gems & Jewellery.

Gujarat's Potential :

On the launch of this function, I want to apprise you all of our achievements, of the potential that is available in Gujarat, on the possible wealth generating partnerships that exist, on how global entrepreneurs can join us in our march towards progress, and how investors can reap rich dividends in Gujarat.

I would say if you plant a rupee in the Gujarati soil, you may be able to get a dollar in return! “Rupayo vavo, ane dollar lano” Such is Gujarat's entrepreneurial spirit. As I mentioned in my speech at Ahmedabad, when I think of Gujarat, there is just one word that comes to my mind. Just one word! And it conveys everything - 'Unlimited.'

Gujarat, as I see it is unlimited in nature, in character, in vibrancy! It has unlimited potential, unlimited talent, unlimited opportunities, unlimited resilience, unlimited energy.
